What is Chakra Therapy?
Chakra therapy means handling or moving energy that is in our body, through different techniques, for the proper harmonization of the chakras.
Chakra Therapy, Energy, Harmony and Health
Through Energy Therapy or Chakra Therapy, such as quartz bowls and acupuncture, we can bring balance to our chakras, the energy centers that are located in the body and which represent directly what happens to us emotionally, physically and psychologically.
Suffering from diseases, disorders or syndromes is something very common among those who are alive in this century. The poor quality of life, bad habits, lousy food and no physical activity deteriorate the body and also disturb the subtle fields that form each one of us.
Thus, our energy is also affected and this influences our health, which not only has to do with physical pains, but also on a mental and social level, factors that undoubtedly become imbalanced with the turmoil to which we are exposed on a daily basis.
That’s why we talk about the chakras, a term which has its origin in the Vedas, and that means “wheel”. It refers to the energy centers present in the human body, which are recognized as seven major wheels and several side wheels, that correspond to acupuncture ends.
Experts in chakra therapy say that the chakras are “vortexes through which energy flows; They are the direct manifestation of our physical, emotional and mental health, representative of our consciousness. Through them, we understand and embody our environment”.
The seven major chakras are seven. They are located along the spine, the first one being the Root Chakra, and the seventh being the Crown Chakra.
The Chakra System
First chakra: Muladhara or Root Chakra
Located at the base of the coccyx, its correct flow depends on our instinct for survival.
Second chakra: Svadisthana or Sacral Chakra
Located in the sacrum, it is related to the ovaries or testicles. It regulates sexual energy, creativity.
Third chakra: Manipura or Solar Plexus Chakra
Located above the navel, in the solar plexus. It is related to the adrenal glands and its functioning has to do with the mind, control, freedom.
Fourth chakra: Anahata or Heart Chakra
It is at the level of the heart; is related to the thymus, an organ behind the sternum, involved in the development of the lymphatic system and the immune response of the organism. This is the chakra of compassion, love, healing.
Fifth chakra: Vissudha or Throat Chakra
Located in the larynx, it corresponds to the thyroid gland. This gland secretes hormones that are present in almost all functions of the organism. This chakra is related to speech and growth.
Sixth chakra: Ajna or Third Eye Chakra
It is located between the eyes; is related to the pituitary gland, which rests at the base of the skull and is the center around which our metabolism spins. This sixth chakra provides intuition, perception beyond the senses.
Seventh chakra: Sahasrara or Crown Chakra
The crown chakra corresponds to the pineal gland, which produces melatonin, regulating the mechanisms of sleep and wakefulness. Its function has to do with transcendence, the connection with the higher world.
Harmonizing the Chakras
Each chakra has a specific color that is not chosen by chance but rather because of its frequency of vibration. Each chakra has a vibrational frequency and vibrates at a particular frequency that is similar to the vibration of its color.
Following the above, we identify the chakras and their colors as follows:
- Root chakra: red
- Sacral chakra: orange
- Solar Plexus chakra: yellow
- Heart chakra: green
- Throat chakra: blue
- Third Eye chakra: indigo
- Crown chakra: violet
Each chakra can suffer imbalances. Because the energy is constantly flowing through these centers, sometimes changes occur in a particular vibration, such as a lack of harmony. Thus affecting both its function and the body organs that receive energy through it.
The location of each chakra has to do with a specific gland with a particular function: releasing hormones, metabolic processes, mood changes, etc. This is also directly related to the energy center it affects. According to Chakra therapy, if the fourth chakra (the heart chakra) is unbalanced, the person might have to deal with love and emotional problems, cardiovascular disease, etc.; If the throat chakra is imbalanced, the larynx might be affected and the chakra therapy will focus on working communication problems.
Chakra Therapy with Sound
In relation to chakra therapy techniques that are recognized as beneficial to balance the chakras, the creator of Sound Therapy mentions that the use of quartz bowls is one of them.
In this regard the sound emanating from these vessels “makes each chakra resonate in its healthy sound frequency. Resonance is a property of sound that makes matter vibrate when in contact with a sound source”, he says.
And to be even more rigorous, the chakra therapist mentions that each bowl belongs to a certain musical note, which in turn coincides with one of the energy centers to which we want to get through the healing technique. These notes and correspondences are:
- Root chakra: C
- Sacral chakra: D
- Solar plexus chakra: E
- Heart chakra: F
- Throat chakra: G
- Third eye chakra: A
- Crown chakra: B
The first step when working with patients that need harmonization of their chakras is to perform a “full scan” to determine the imbalance suffering and its origin.
Then the person lies on the floor on a mat and each bowl is placed a few inches from the major affected chakras. Along with this, breathing and relaxation exercises are done. The point is, before starting the sound chakra therapy with bowls, to focus and set an intention for each chakra that will be healed.
This is a vibrational chakra therapy where there is an instrument used in perfect resonance with the individual. The singing bowls are amplifiers and harmonic energy enhancers, which makes them a good resource in the process of healing and opening our chakras.
Acupuncture Chakra Therapy
Acupuncture and Chakra system theory have a few common concepts, even many of the points used in this ancient Chinese technique are exactly the same as the energy centers that were called Chakras by the Vedas in Ancient India.
This is very likely, since the energies that flow through humans have a common origin and instead on focusing what came first and what later, we must understand that the problem of energies is common to all diseases.
Unlike the chakra therapy, where energy centers coincide with a gland, in Chinese medicine there is a ying yang correspondence with the organs. These are formed into 5 pairs:
- Heart / small intestine,
- Spleen / stomach,
- Lung / large intestine,
- Kidney / bladder
- Liver / gallbladder.
Thus, many of the side chakras will correspond with the energy channels of acupuncture. The main difference is that needles are involved, as a method of toning and dispersion, so the therapy is performed on the base energy.
The harmonization of chakras in traditional Chinese medicine is called Chi Kung (mobilization of the chi energy) and its main points of action in correspondence with the Chakra Therapy are:
- Chakra / Acupuncture point
- Crown / Bai Hui
- Third Eye / Tang Yin
- Throat / Tian Tu
- Heart / Zhan Zhong
- Solar plexus / Zhong Wan
- Sacrum / Guan Yuan or Shi Men
- Root / Hui Yin
When there are cases of more subtle diseases that do not require hospitalization or medical therapy, the patients can improve by themselves. With the help of chakra therapy, an individual can fully open or close their chakras, mobilize their own energy and heal themselves.
